Kali Majapahit martial arts is the leading academy for those looking for efficient martial arts as well as a way to shape the body and sharpen the mind. We were approached to create a short, hard-hitting video that showcases what Kali Majapahit can be with the right amount of training & dedication.

Kali Majapahit Singapore is a long term collaborator and one of our first clients in early days in Singapore. We also know a lot of the guros (not a typo) personally and
when this project came into the works it felt like a long time coming.
We knew we wanted a highly-stylised, punchy epic to portray what Kali Majapahit can look like for a very committed practitioner, whilst also showcasing the skills of the core instructors. This ended up coming to fruition via WHITEBOX STUDIO, a fully kitted out white-walled studio in Singapore plus a highspeed camera on a gimbal with a set of cinema lenses.
We rehearsed the movements - martial arts and camera - at the KM dojo once before bringing them to the studio with a more advanced setup.
Shooting with a highspeed camera means you want to be rolling for the shortest amount of time possible.
However, due to the intense, flowy aspect of the routines, we didn't want to be stopping/starting halfway through the performances.
Hence, after recording a take, we'd check it and if it wasn't good enough, delete it and retake it until we had a perfect clip.
Across 3 routines from 2 angles this still added up to be a whole lot of footage but
it gave exactly the flexibility we needed in post to combine all three of them into one seemless motion throughout the video.
We initially used a temp track for the first draft but decided to build a track from scratch for the final product. This allowed us to layer in sound designs and create a unique sound track that captured the energy we were going for.
we worked with Ashvind Ramani for the riff. We gave him the final cut with a stripped back beat and let him improvise based off of the visuals we'd created. after that we mixed + mastered the riff and additional elements into the final audio heard in the video.
